From the first start to the first value in Excel, and answers to what people ask most.

First steps

  1. Open your Excel workbook

    Open your template and click the cell where the first value should go. DaqFox finds Excel by itself.

  2. Choose the device

    In the Source 1 column: device family, model, then COM port or IP address. On multi-channel devices, tick the channels.

  3. Connect & init

    DaqFox checks that the device answers and starts reading straight away. The green dot beside MEASUREMENT shows that readings are arriving.

  4. Add more sources

    With + New source at the right edge. Each column has a CAPTURE switch that decides whether it is written.

  5. Capture

    Enter or the CAPTURE button writes a packet, Space repeats the last one. Packet layout, spacing and order are set in the SETTINGS panel on the left.

Common questions

Does Excel have to be installed?

Only for the Excel output. Without Excel DaqFox runs normally, with live values, statistics and trend; the EXCEL OUTPUT card then says what is missing.

Does the measuring PC need internet?

No. The licence is a file DaqFox checks locally. There is no licence server and no outside connection.

What happens if I click into another workbook?

DaqFox follows the active workbook and sheet and writes the change into each column's event log, for example "Now targeting Other.xlsx - Sheet1 - B2.". A stray click into another workbook therefore redirects the values.

What if Excel cannot write right now?

If the workbook is closed, the sheet protected or a dialog open in Excel, the packet does not advance, the error goes into the log, and nothing lands in a wrong cell.

The device will not connect.

Check the COM port and whether another program holds it, such as the maker's own PC software. Two DaqFox columns cannot share one port. With TRACE the column shows every command and reply on the wire.

Reading suddenly stops.

After three read failures in a row DaqFox stops the run; usually the cable was pulled or the front panel was taken back. RESUME carries on without reconnecting.

I have a new PC or a new disk.

Then the hardware id changes. Send us the new id from DaqFox-HardwareID.exe and we reissue the licence.

How long is the evaluation?

30 days, full feature set, on the PC you intend to measure with. Ideally with your own device, because the simulators do not replace a test on the real amplifier.
